The Mesa is a Palm Springs neighborhood of about 180 homes nestled along the base of Mount San Jacinto. The Mesa was originally created in the 1930s by Edmond Fulford, a successful Los Angeles businessman, who envisioned a quaint and private community with a single entrance.

This was one of the first ‘gated communities’. The original gate is still standing and can be seen on El Portal at South Palm Canyon and is depicted on the neighborhood’s street signs. The Mesa offers various architectural styles such as Spanish, contemporary, craftsman, and a few midcentury homes.

As with other Palm Springs neighborhoods, the Mesa has been home to stars such as Clark Gable, Carole Lombard, Sonny Bono, Barry Manilow, Robert Wagner, Natalie Wood, Suzanne Somers, and many other notable entertainers and artists.

The famous Moorten Botanical Garden are located in the Mesa. This historic landmark first opened in 1938 which showcases rare cacti and succulents.
